Have you experienced the truth of what Anais Nin said "We don't see things as they are. We see them as we are"?

All the time. How else can we see the world but through our own eyes, and we can only project motives and intentions and meaning based on our own experience. When someone is happy can we ever know if their happiness is the same as our own? We can only imagine them feeling the happiness that we've felt. What might this truth indicate about people who are godless? The same thing about people who have god, I suppose.
