Why did God allow such a religious state to suffer so badly?

As we all know, Alabama, which has a long history of racial harmony, and tolerance toward everyone regarding diffent pigmyntation and different religions, sexual orientations, etc is the very epidemy of what every state dreams of being. Why did God ( the Only God - the Christian God ) allow this to happen to Alabama? Why don't we ever hear of earthquakes hurricanes or tornadoes hitting Godless lib states like California?
