Why are my hermit crabs suddenly so active?

I'm new to the world of caring for hermit crabs, but I like to know everything I possibly can about new things, so I've been doing A LOT of research online about them. I've had them for about 5 months, and they've all been doing quite well (I have 5 of them... 3 are Purple Pinchers and 2 are Equadorian). Recently I read that the pellet food you get at the pet store was bad because of the preservatives in them, so I threw it out and started giving them fresh fruits, veggies, and egg shells. About 2 days after I started feeding them fresh foods, they became super active, mostly during the day time! I know they're nocturnal animals, but my crabs for some reason are crawling and climbing everywhere 24/7. It's like they're on speed or something. Could this be because I started giving them fresh food? Can it make that big of a difference? I know humans obviously function better on preservative free food, but has anyone ever heard of their crabs gaining crazy energy just from switching their food?

I just bought a new hermit crab yesterday, and tonight i found my smallest crab dead and out of his shell. No limbs were missing. I'm wondering if the new crab is responsible, because the dead crab had a much smaller shell and therefore it wouldn't be a fight over the shell. Any ideas?

Okay recently i have just completed my first semester of college and I found a job but its a work from home job and i know my dads gonna say something Extremely negative mind u im 23 years old and i moved back home because i lived with a friend who had a son and lets just say it was a terrible situation. August of 2010 she found a boyfriend and picked up our family consisting of me, my little sister, and her, and moved us out with him and his two children. I lived in my hometown for 8 years. My mom moved me out with her boyfriend at the start of my freshman year because it was a better education from what I'd receive in my hometown. I hated my new school off the get. My mom wrote me a letter and told me that if I stayed and tried this new school for one year, I could go back and live with my dad in my hometown. My dad found a school that may be better then the school I attended with my mom. It's almost like a private school. The school has great opportunities. My father then filed for custody in April in hopes to have me in his custody by summer. In the mean time, early June, me wanting to live with my father for so long had such an impact on my mom, she texted my dad and said she's done. My dad and I win. I can pack my stuff up and live with him. She doesn't have the strength anymore. She watched me as I packed everything in my room and I wasn't allowed to leave anything. The court date ended up being near the end of June. After two weeks of living with my dad, the court date rolls around. In court my mother gets a lawyer and says she never granted custody. In the court they came to agreement that she'd have split custody in the summer, and my fathers custody is only temporary during the school year. I was crushed when I found out about every other week in the summer. I do not have many friends where my mom lives and I'm miserable. I'm so much happier in my hometown with my dad. Because of the untruthfulness of my mother, I've learned to hate her. How could she be so selfish to her daughter and keep her somewhere she DOESN'T want to be. I'm 15, have no criminal record, has a 3.9 GPA, and hangs out with a group of friends who have good heads on their shoulders. Is there anything I can do? I've thought about emancipation, but I don't have job, and I want to live full time with my dad. I'd rather not see my mom. Help?

Should I go to the USAFA?

I am currently a female my late teens and for some reason joining the military is something i always wanted to do. There is something about the Air Force in particular that interests me the most. I love math and science and i definatly enjoy a challenge. Right now im considering going to the Air Force Academy after i graduate from high school, but this is something no one in my family aproves of. They all ask me "why?" and they think that if i join the USAF ill be commiting the biggest mistake of my life. I do not have any "problems" or wish to join simply for money or anything like that. If i honestly could i have the opportunity to go to any other college and i know i have many other career options if i wished. Nothing really caught my attention though. I tried imagining myself pursuing another career and i just cant see it. I dont want to do something 'normal' i want something exciting and risky, and when i learned about the USAFA i have never felt so excited and sure about wanting something. Right now I'm in the JROTC program at my school which is a leadership program based on the military. I love marching and the uniforms. I dont care about the yelling or how tough the basic training will be, but i just want to know from others if anyone has regretted joining the military? You think i should just stick with another career? My siblings constantly try to tell me that the military just try to "Brainwash" people, and that im too bright to fall for something like this. Guidelines to Fixing a Shy Hermit Crab?

sometimes you just get a shy crab ... you should get a friend or two for the "nameless" (evil crab owner - just kidding :O) hermit crab ... when picking out new ones, pick up one that is in his shell and if he comes out immediately, that is a good crab to get ... if you set the crab down in a place different from where he is being kept at the store and he immediately comes out, that s a good crab to get ... and i have found putting them in lukewarm water outside of their tank will get them kinda frisky ... like shallow water, less than half an inch ... and even my shyest crabs will come out and motor about in the water ... and pick a name already could ya :O)

I recently attained two new hermit crabs. The first few days they were fine, although i did notice they did not eat at all, either fresh nor pellet/powder food. I simply attriubuted this to adjusting to their new climate, and so i wasnt worried. Iv'e had them for about two weeks, and i dont think they've eaten yet. Also, they consistantly bury themselves in the sand,which of course is something that hermit crabs do, but they stay there for days on end, and do not move. It has gotten to the point at which i dig them out myself and place them on their sponge because i fear dehydradation. I have no idea whether they drink or not, but they do go right back in the sand after a few minutes. Im worried. Help?

Learning German, then going to school there?

My Oma lives in Mainz, Germany, and when I graduate from high school in December I'm going to live with her for four months to improve my German, then I'm coming back to the states. I'm either going to go to school here in the states, or I am going to spend a year in Germany living in Mainz and taking classes at the Goethe Institute preparing me to pass the DaF so that I can attend school at one of the universities. My goal is to be able to obtain a work visa after school and stay in Germany if it works out. My question is, do you think it's possible that I can reach enough fluency in German to attend a university there? I've taken 4.5 years of high school German, my dad is a fluent German speaker and is currently only speaking to me auf Deutsch. I would love to be in Germany for school; this is only a dilemma because if I choose to spend that year in Germany to learn the language, if I haven't reached enough fluency and decide I can't attend a university there I might not be able to start school in the states until I'm 21. I don't know what that would mean for ACT scores and etc, but basically I'm choosing one or the other. Yes I've thought about studying abroad. The schools that I'm applying to in the states for my major do not offer good study abroad programs, the longest period of time I can participate is up to a year. So. It's one or the other for me, I don't want to ruin my education to switch countries, but this is an opportunity that is more available to me than other people and I'm not sure about due to the circumstances. Here's the deal. I sing Opera and I'm top notch Soprano at my community college and would do anything for music. I've been singing all my life, been in so many programs and choirs and have been taking singing lessons for years. I flew out to New Jersey last December to apply to Westminster College in Princeton, NJ (this school is private, population of 70 students, and is connected to Princeton and if I got accepted I would be a Princeton student as well.) I did a private audition and blew the judges away, saying they would do "anything" to have me as a student and am the best singer they've heard in a long time. After the audition I flew back home waiting for my acceptance letter. I got my letter 1 week later saying they accepted me and offering my $21,000 scholarship towards my tuition. Although the tuition is $40,000 a year, I still need $19,000. The school said they don't give full ride scholarships and the scholarship I got is the best. I called the school many times for financial aid or loans and they said they do not offer anything more than my scholarship and that I can look into bank loans. If I got a government loan I need to co-sign with my parents, but we keep getting denied cause my parents "make too much money." My parents can't pay out of their pocket cause they "Have too many expensive bills to pay." But bank loans interest are SO HIGH! I don't know if I'm getting myself into something I will regret and be in debt for life. But this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and all my professional teachers are saying I can honestly get famous for this for how talented I am...but the financial problem is such a pain. My parents are conservative, so they said if I can't go to Princeton I need to move out and live on my own and work up in a restaurant somehow. I need to go to this school but money is such a problem, I'm stuck. WHAT SHOULD I DO? IS THERE ANY ALTERNATIVES?

Why did hermit crabs die?

Two hermit crabs were purchased together from a pet store, one was large and the other was small. Both were provided with adequate food, water, habitat, extra shells, and temperature. One morning the larger one fell out of its shell dead when picked up to be misted, this was about two weeks after their purchase. The tail end of it was completely devoid of color and the crab was stiff and brittle. Two weeks later the smaller one's front leg and a piece of his larger claw fell off. The next day he too died. What could have caused their deaths?

14 litres is too small for any fish cold or tropical temperatures. Nothing will thrive in that tank. I highly suggest a new tank. If you want tropical fish 20+ gallons will give you a good amount and variety. Goldfish need at least 20 for a single fancy. 75+ gallons could hold a single comet or several fancies.

Ok, so I am one of those STRANGE men who is pushing 31 and have never dated nor had a serious relationship before in my life. I had a rough childhood growing up, had no self-confidence during my high school years, had a physically abusive father, and subsequently never had the b*lls to approach a female during high school. Moreover, unlike MOST young Americans today, I did NOT have the opportunity to go DIRECTLY to college after high school due to not having the financial and moral support of my parents like most kids do today. So, instead of getting to go to college, I had to instead join the Marine Corps. While the Marines did bring me out of my shale so to speak, I learned that being stationed in Jax, NC is a HORRIBLE place to be for a single guy for several reasons. Number one, there are only married Marine wives in that town. Number two, Marines are not liked in the eastern part of NC so that makes it that much more difficult unless you have a high school and/or hometown sweetheart that you are dating. So, I proceeded to get out of the USMC, get a job, got laid off, and started going to school. I moved to a smaller city in CO south of Denver where everybody pretty much knows everyone else from growing up here so if you aren't originally from here then you are out of luck as far as dating is concerned. Not only that, but most people who move here are already married since the town that I live in is primarily an Army and AF town. My stepdad tells me that I shouldn't worry about trying to find a g/f right now and should stay focused on my studies. The only problem with that is the fact that I will be in my early 30s and (hopefully) starting work at my first professional career. The only available single women will be single moms because most American women marry no later than 23 and have their first divorce at around my age. I don't care anything about being a dad to a child that isn't mine whatsoever. Not only that, but most women will think that I am either a freak or gay for not having any relationship experience at my age. I think that it would be best for me to just hurry up, finish my degree, get a job, become a hermit, and totally forget that women even exist in this world. Am I messed up or what?

I have been a christian my entire life. I was raised in a small town and everyone i knew was a christian. We all just shared the same beliefs and interests. So in a way I guess I was sheltered. i would not doubt it was the other hermit crab that dug up the molting one and mangled it ... they will cannibalize each other in the right instances ... that happened once in one of my tanks ... the substrate was not deep enough and one hermit crab i found had dug up a molter, already had a limb removed, and sadly that crab did not make it ... if this crab is 6 years old and has molted successfully for years, there is a chance she will live ... make sure the crab has everything needed especially a good calcium supplement, good fresh food including meat, veggies and fruit ... fresh and marine water ... try to watch to make sure the other crab does not go for the other one in her weakened state ... if you do see the other one picking on the mangled one, put in a tank divider to see how the injured one does ... good luck ...

My hermits have buried them selves under the bedding in their tank and haven't come out. They have been under their for a while now and are moving around. that should be enough, because hermit crabs do not all molt at the same time. A little tip is to not put shells that are exactly the same size and shape in the cage it leaves more options. Also when a hermit is molting it is a great idea to separate it from the fellow hermit crabs, because it is vulnerable during this process so by separating it you are protecting it.

Hermit Crab Help !!!!!!!!?

I own 3 hermit crabs. I have them in a pretty big plastic cage and they all seem very happy ! They have small huts for each of them, a pool of water, food, and 3 sponges. If I were you, I'd confront the landlord and be honest. Mention that they have no place to go and your only option is for you to take them in. Most apartment complexes (actually I think all) charge you extra for having pets in the house. But to be honest I had a cat in my apartment and my landlord or manager of the complex never knew nor found out. I find it the right way to be honest because if the landlord were to find the cat and you never told him/her then that's twice the penalty. Just be honest! :) Good luck!

Also, when i got a facebook....SHE GOT A FACEBOOK 2 DAYS LATER!! another example is when my brother and i both got a hamster and we invited Sally over after school to see them and the first thing she said to her mom after she saw them was: "Mom, i want a hamster." then that very day they visited the pet store and looked at hamsters! but they didnt but one...it was a close call. i have one more example. My mom and her mom were talking one the phone one day and her mom made my mom promise not to buy me a phone yet and that me and Sally should buy them together because if one of them got a phone before the other...the other one would be jelous. so my mom promised....but the next weekend when we were out of town they went off and bought Sally a phone!! what happened to the promise?! its like she didnt care if i was jelous as long as her own daughter wasnt the one that would be jelous. Cant cope with my depression?

I don't understand, you started out sounding very depressed and ended up saying you are confident then you say you feel your life is over! You are only 23, that is where life truly begins to open up all those doors and you are more free to have fun and make great choices for yourself. At 16, you really don't have all that opportunity, really. You need to go out now, forget about what you didn't do the past couple of years. Don't waste the next 18 years of your life upset about something you cannot change. When you are 40, like me, if you feel the same way you do now it will be much worse. It still won't be over though. I am in college, my oldest daughter is moving out with her boyfriend, I have an okay job...the point is, is keep moving forward...don't get caught up in your own pity party. That may sound harsh but get harsh with yourself and get out there!!!! You can do it because only you can do it. I'd say he is probably dead. The best way to find out would be to just pick him up and try to see if you can get him to move at all. Usually molting only lasts 24 hours if even that and they're back to normal. I'd try to pick him up and see if I can't get him to move. They're not paralyzed when they molt and if you can't get it to move at all then it's dead. The smell is another sign. Plus when you pick him up to see if you can get any movement/reaction out of him check and see if he is cold all over.

Basically, I've let everyone down. I got married just because everyone told me not too. don't plan on getting a divorce so don't even say that. Saltwater Hermit Crabs not doing Their job!?

Picky Hermit Crabs? Seem happy and healthy, but wont eat!?

I got two hermit crabs about a month ago (Michael Jackson and Cee Lo Green...my four year old named them!) just a few days after getting them they went under to molt, which took like 3 weeks. They have come back up from their grave and are now happy and social and active. But they will not EAT! They ate a shrimp tail once, but not the next time I gave it to them. I have tried carrots, strawberries, crackers, pirate booty, freeze dried blood worms, cheese (before I knew it was bad), lettuce, apple, grape, sunflower seed(desperate), dried cat food.... I don't want to do store bought food because I know it has bad preservatives in it... but I want to try it out of desperation. Is it normal not to eat for periods of time? OR they don't like anything I've offered?

Peter showed that he had short term faith when he walked on the water then fell in. So I'd start out with short term faith and don't go to high. Just start levitating first. I've gone through this with my parents so many times I've lost count. It's a difficult situation but you can't make them listen. You just have to keep believing what you believe and let them believe what they believe. Myy hermit crab, active , was as heathy as can be . he would really exsersize and play with me (without pinching ) i feed him and gave him water everytime he was out . i got him i gorgia last summer alont with another crab, but he killed that krab. but about cople days ago he died . the day befor he died he was just fine. As far as Josephus mentioning religious mythology also- most all ancient history carried religious language of the culture of the time. Yet the Jesus part was historical because Josephus was a non-Christian Jew who barely mentions Him. Nevertheless, he was the chosen historian for the tiny Jewish nation, appointed by the Roman Empire under Titus. This brings to question: what is "real" evidence to anything which atheists do not believe about Scripture or Christ? One thing is certain, There will never be a photograph or video, and even if there was, it would, of course, be disputed. What's sad is that impressionable minds sometimes come to YA R&S for answers from spiritually minded people, only to be greeted by the messengers of Satan who hang around to insult, mock, and discourage anyone with genuine faith. And in my opinion, these angry, Godless people should be corrected for the impressionable.

In a very awkward spot with my boss?

How do I apply for food stamps/SNAP separately from parents?

I've read that if someone is 22 or older then they may apply separately from parents if living in the same household, but my question is how?? My parents are not on any benefits, but I'm 22 I just got off active duty from the military a few months ago and moved back with them. I'm in the Navy Reserves and only make 180 a month, and I buy my own food and pay my loan and phone, so it doesn't leave much left over. But when filling out the application, it says what is the total number of people in your household and what is their income...do I only include myself or all of them too?(parents and two brothers). My hermit crabs are not sleeping during the day?

My hermit crabs usually sleep during the day and come out at night but this morning the i found them all sitting out :S I mean they look fine but they do not ever come out during the day! My one crab has done this for two days now. It's so weird! And they don't even get scared when I come near the tank anymore?? What's wrong?? there are two heaters under the tank...could they be too hot?? I just cleaned the tank like last week and but they just started doing this in the past few days, they have always been fine with those heaters...what's up with them??? Is this a paranormal superstition?

Last summer, there was this one day were there were tons of flies in my house, and i mean TONS. Ive never seen so much, they were sworming in the living room and there was at least one in each room. This happend on a thursday. Well friday (the next day) they were gone, and a dead one in each window of the house. Well anyways, on sunday, my grandmother (i live with my grandparents) went to go get the paper at her fathers house (she does so every sunday after my greatgrandfather was done with it) he usually kept the paper outside because he was a hermit and didnt like socializing after his wifes death. Well the paper wasnt on the porch so my grandmother went inside to get it. When she got inside, there was a swarm of flies leading to the basement and she noticed the basement door was open so she went to shut it and noticed my great grandfather dead at the bottom of the stairs. investigators came in and said he died by falling down the stairs on THURSDAY night.... the same night the flies were swarming my house, around the same time of his death. Could this be a sign of death? Or was it just timing? Please help, this has been bugging me for a while and im into the paranormal stuff. ive had paranormal things happen before. please dont joke about this, its serious to me
