Do Christians genuinely believe bad things will happen in a godless society?

It seems to me like this is just an act; they just act like they believe the sky will fall if the majority of people stop believing in their god concept. What they really fear is that they won't be able to manipulate people in a godless society and the scumbags who run organized religions will have to go and get real jobs. This is what they really fear, right?
