Do hermit crabs just need one water dish of FRESH bottled water? OR do they also need a salt water dish?

Land hermit crabs, which are the type usually sold at pet stores and such, just need access to fresh water for drinking. There are also marine hermit crabs, which require a salt water aquarium, and are much more difficult to maintain than the terrestrial species.
